In 2020, California residents passed Proposition 24, authorizing the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) to provide much-needed updates to existing California privacy law.
In 2024 CPPA bureaucrats ignored the public and proposed regulations that have nothing to do with what Californians voted for in 2020 that will hurt small businesses and California’s economy at a time when so many feel the state is moving in the wrong direction and that their state leaders do not listen to them. CPPA’s proposed regulations will stifle innovation, make it harder for entrepreneurs to grow companies and hurt California businesses.
The CPPA’s own assessment of the impact? $3.5 billion direct cost on businesses, triggering a $31 billion decline in investment that will shrink California’s economy by $50 billion in lost output, and 98,000 fewer jobs—hurting businesses, workers, and the state’s economic growth.
California has serious challenges – from the affordability crisis to recovering from natural disasters. Bureaucrats in Sacramento should be making it easier, not harder for Californians to thrive.
